sideways play in pump handle

Have a hand pump that was installed new in 1999 and used almost daily for water for a few head of livestock. Lately I've noticed sideways play in the pump handle so I am looking for information on whether this is a problem and if so, how to fix it. No other problems with the pump, pumping or the amount of water it produces. Thank you.

If I understand you correctly, my guess is that the bushing or bearing in the handle has loosened up over time. You can replace it or use it as is until it really gets bad. As long as things are working otherwise, I would just consider it normal wear and tear.
